Gil Presti is pleased to present Bas-reliefs, a solo exhibition by Karen Swami.
In this new series—an artisanal pottery showcase—the artist explores smoked ceramics in bas-relief form, where gold lines traverse grayed surfaces like abstract gestures.

Marked by fire, the pieces reveal imperfections transformed by light and pure gold, embodying the spirit of kintsugi. Vases and bas-reliefs, crafted with Japanese plant lacquer, gold, and enamel, draw inspiration from ancient forms—from Nagada amphorae to Etruscan and Egyptian ceramics.

Through this artisanal pottery showcase, Karen Swami’s work establishes a poetic dialogue between form, material, and the unexpected.
